“For the past 17 years I’ve been using alcohol and for the last 12 using excessively, in some cases using other kinds of drugs while under the influence of alcohol.  Recently I went through quite a rough patch including near-death situations, going backwards in my work which I’m very passionate about and slowly pushing my loved ones away.  Seeking help I was referred to Breakthrough Wellness Centre and my experience has been nothing but positive.

I was received with open arms – although anxious at first I almost immediately felt at home.  Unjudged, able to speak and share issues I wouldn’t share with others the counsellors and social workers helped me process these issues in my mind giving me tools to work with.  Management was very considerate and even adjusted their general procedures to help me adapt to the environment.

The Staff.  Where do I start?  Chief in charge Renier is one big, intimidating, muscular teddy bear with a little heart of gold wanting to help everyone in need.  Morné the head counsellor, although always full of jokes doesn’t beat around the bush, calls a spade a spade, getting straight to the point for you to focus and get your act together.

Oom Leon and Tannie Linda were my rehab parents with hearts of gold, besides helping with my understanding of many things they were more than just counsellors.  Tannie Linda always loving and baked us random tasty treats throughout my stay, Oom Leon always grateful, there to have a good chat and share his interesting stories with us.

Counsellor Kirk – The clown, a vibrant soul, helped me understand a lot of questions I couldn’t answer and always gave me a good abdominal workout with the laughs, never a dull moment with him around.

Counsellor Zanelle – She is our teacher, always there to talk to, answer questions, share stories and put a smile on your face as she’s always in a good mood. Social worker Senzani, the shoulder when you need it.  Great listener and full of good advice. And Finally, the Nurses, Happy and Diana – helpful and cheerful, always there to put a smile on your face. In my 21 days here I’ve seen people change for the best and not only did I make new friends, I have become part of a new family.  It was a difficult step for me to take but I’m extremely happy I did it and I feel there’s hope for me again.”
